I'm a Percy Jackson Nut and I wouldn't feel right if I didn't have every Percy Jackson book. this was cool book. I liked the three short stories it contained, they all made me laugh. I liked the illustrations and especially the camp. Basically this book was just elaborating Percy Jackson. All in all it was a fun read and a must if you Percy Jackson.

4 out of 5 stars Demigod Shorts   June 10, 2010

Apparently, this came out between books four and five, and I could easily have read it between books ... but I didn't realize. The three short stories in this book definitely take place in that space, and Riordan does a nice job of letting Percy narrate but shining a light on the supporting characters instead. The first story features Clarisse and definitely gives a glimpse into how her antagonistic relationship with Percy matured over time. The second story fills us in on how Beckendorf and Silena started dating and gives a little nudge to the Percy-Annabeth relationship. The third story is the first time since The Titan's Curse that the three remaining children of the Big Three gods are in one place, as Percy, Thalia and Nico are summoned by Persephone for a dangerous task that leads pretty well into the final book.

The book is filled out with interviews with Percy, Annabeth, Clarisse, Grover and Chiron, some word games, and full color pictures of the main demigods and their parents. A nice short addition to the series. It'd be nice if Riordan wrote more short stories in the Percy Jackson-verse.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Demigod Files, by Rick Riordan

"The Demigod Files" is a cute little book, perfect for younger fans of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. There are three short stories, interviews with a few campers, color pictures of the main characters, and a crossword and word search.

I say this is perfect for younger readers mainly because it is short, and the content beside the short stories didn't really catch my attention. The three short stories are gems, though.

The first, "Percy Jackson and the Stolen Chariot," features Percy and Clarisse, as he helps the daughter of Ares retrieve the war god's hijacked chariot. The second, "Percy Jackson and the Bronze Dragon," is about a very dangerous game of capture the flag, complete with gigantic ants. And the third, "Percy Jackson and the Sword of Hades," reunites Percy, Thalia, and Nico for an Underworld adventure. The stories all have that "Percy" feel, and I really enjoyed each one. They reminded me of my love for the series - I want to read all the Percy books again now!

My only complaint about "The Demigod Files" is that it's far too short, but it was intended to fill in the gap between "The Battle for the Labyrinth" and "The Last Olympian." I also would have liked the illustration of Annabeth's trunk to be in color, as I found it hard to see all the details in black and white.

4/5.
